Inauspicious times of the day

Rahu Kalam and Ketu's Kala Deepam

Every planet in every day has it's ruling time. Ravi, Chandra, Kuja, Budha, Guru, Sukra and Sani planets will have it's Hora timings. During the particular planet rules at a particular time. It is other wise called a 'Hora Time'.

Like wise Rahu also has its ruling time. It is called a Rahukalam. Like wise Ketu also has its own time but it is not in light. No one starts any ventures, or travels or any other matters during this period as Rahu Kalam as it will give negative effects. To nullify the negative effects of Rahu, antecedents quote if lighting a deepa at the point of Rahu Kalam in a Goddess deity temple, the negative effects will be nullified. By lighting a deepa in Rahu kalam, the native will get the blessings of Goddess Kanakadurga.

To guard the negative effects of Rahu kalam, the only one who could effectively nullify the negative effects of Rahu is Lord Maha Ganapati. If we light a deepam at the foot of Lord Maha Ganapati, all negative effects will be nullified. Progress can be seen and things will be fulfilled. The natives who are under the evil influence of Rahu can do so to wipe off the negative effects of Rahu.

Those natives who are suffering with more difficulties due to the effect of evil effects of other plants, the only solution available is to light a lamp at the foot of Maha Ganapati on Sunday and Wednesday. The pratima should be placed on dharba for more positive results.

Paramahamsa Satyananda Saraswati Mahasamadhi 5 Dec. 2009

Text below quoted from here.

Paramahamsa Satyananda Saraswati took Mahasamadhi today in Rikhia, India. He was a great disciple of Swami Sivanananda of Rishikesh and the founder of the Bihar School of Yoga among other prominent and beneficial institutions.

Paramahamsaji brought many practical and authentic Tantrik teachings to people around the world through his teaching centers and numerous books. Later in life, he performed an ancient, multi-year Tantrik fire ceremony – the panchagni. When he completed that arduous sadhana, he handed over the lineage to his successor, Paramahamsa Niranjanananda Saraswati.

Subsequently, Paramahamsaji embarked on a great expansion of the charitable works of the lineage. He became a more pronounced proponent of Bhakti, and undertook the economic and social upliftment of 50,000 villagers in and around Rikhia. Two recent movies have documented the annual Sat Chandi festival at Rikhia and the unique and thoughtful manner in which charitable works are carried out by the lineage.

Although I never met Paramahamsaji in person, his writings, especially his early books on the Guru-disciple relationship, shaped me profoundly. He also helped me at several crucial moments in my life through dreams and in other ways.

Now is a wonderful time to meditate on this great Guru, to offer your prayers for his future unfolding, and to open to the never-ending flow of Guru’s grace.

In Ma’s love,

Govardhana Puja and Dipavali Festival - 18 October. Radhadesh, Belgium

The term "Govardhana' has two meanings. The word "Go' means cows, and "vardhana' means nourishment. In the other meaning "Go' stands for senses and "vardhana' means to increase the diversion of the senses towards Sri Krishna. Both these jobs are done by Sri Giriraja. He kindly blesses the devotee by increasing his devotion. Thus by residing in the foothills of Sri Giriraja, all the senses and their respective duties of a soul attain divinity and are inclined to serve the Lotus Feet of Krishna.

While Diwali (Dipavali) is popularly known as the "festival of lights", the most significant spiritual meaning is "the awareness of the inner light".

Central to Hindu philosophy is the assertion that there is something beyond the physical body and mind which is pure, infinite, and eternal, called the Atman. Just as we celebrate the birth of our physical being, Diwali is the celebration of this inner light, in particular the knowing of which outshines all darkness (removes all obstacles and dispels all ignorance), awakening the individual to one's true nature, not as the body, but as the unchanging, infinite, immanent and transcendent reality. With the realization of the Atman comes universal compassion, love, and the awareness of the oneness of all things (higher knowledge). This brings Ananda (inner joy or peace).

The gunas are the underlying forces or tendencies which one needs to have unaffected, direct relation with in order to find effectiveness and righteousness in life: they are lines of potential and illuminate thought and action, thus the inner meaning of Diwali being the festival of lights.

Diwali celebrates this through festive fireworks, lights, flowers, sharing of sweets, and worship. While the story behind Diwali varies from region to region, the essence is the same - to rejoice in the inner light (Atman) or the underlying reality of all things (Brahman).

Celebrating the Birthday of Guru Ram Das - October 9

Yogi Bhajan gave us a special sadhana in honor of the birth of Guru Ram Das. This sadhana is a 2½ hour recitation of the complete Shabad (sacred song) of "Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru." We practice this Shabad to ignite the power of our prayer. As Yogi Bhajan said, "Any move you make, you must pray because that ignites the power. Ignite the power and then go. Let God take care of it." Guru Ram Das is the Lord of Miracles and so on this day pray for your miracle!

About Guru Ram Das

Guru Ram Das began his life as a humble orphan named Jetha. He used to sell wheat berries in the street near the home of the third Sikh Master, Guru Amar Das. One day, Guru Amar Das called the boy into see him. He saw the spirit of Jetha, his Light, his humility, service and love.

"Guru Amar Das said to him, ‘You are not an orphan. You shall be the savior of orphans. All spiritual orphans shall be saved at your home. Jetha, this world is burning in anger and the mesh of lust. People have left God. They have forgotten the Purkha and the Praakirtee. They are all orphans. You shall be the savior of all spiritual orphans. I will marry my daughter to you and you shall be my son-in-law. Therefore, as a custom, I have to respect you.' Guru Amar Das folded his hands, and requested the boy to go and ask his relatives if they could honor him by accepting this relationship. Can you believe from where destiny starts and to where it leads? A miracle happened which never happened before and never has happened since. Jetha, that little orphan boy, became Guru Ram Das. When God smiles at you, you need not go to God; God comes to you." - Yogi Bhajan. (Published in Sikh Dharma Magazine. Vol. III No. 4 Winter 1978)

When we meditate on the Shabad, Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru, we are placing ourselves in the position of witnessing this miracle - of how the hand of the Divine arranged the affairs of a humble, bright and beautiful soul. We are calling on the Subtle and Radiant body of Guru Ram Das to bless us so that we can be part of that miracle. As Guru Ram Das was carried across his karmas to this destiny, so his blessing can touch us and carry us across, as well. This is the power of chanting Dhan Dhan Ram Das Guru.
